Review

"The gripping nature of the subject matter and the author's ability to connect and relate to the reader through experiences and through scripture is something faith-based readers will absolutely love to read about, and will make for a truly helpful non-fiction read." Pacific Book Review 5 Star Rating

"You never know what God might use to help you to heal or to move forward on your life's journey. The Plans He Has For Me has become a remarkable and valued companion for me. I'd almost call it a miracle!" Blogger Finchwren

Rose Ann Forte understands the fears and hardships because she's gone through the slavery and eventual freedom from alcohol herself and wants to share with an audience what worked and continues to work for her, in hopes that it will help her readers. Manhattan Book Review 5 Star Rating

"The mindful minutes were what I found most affecting. On each day, Forte provides insight into the verse of the day, something to consider either for a minute or on and off throughout the day. Most are short - only two or three paragraphs - but that shortness does not mean they can be breezed through. Far from it; these minutes should be lingered over when possible and considered. You may find surprising wisdom after letting them steep for a time in your mind." Portland Book Review 5 Star Rating

KIRKUS: "An upbeat and interactive faith based approach to confronting alcohol addiction"

From the Author

I drank for all the reasons society and the big alcohol companies tell you to drink.  I drank to have fun, I drank to enjoy romantic engagements, I drank to wind down at the end of the day, I drank for sporting events and at brunch and on vacation.  I drank at birthday parties for my children.   Later in life I started to drink because of anxiety and stress and to check out of life's difficult problems.   And then one day I said to myself that I needed to drink less....and that's when I realized "uh oh, why is this so hard to stop?".

I engaged in endless mental gymnastics in order to manage it.   I had proposed rules a plenty!   A partial list included "only on weekends", "only with other people", "only after 5 p.m.", and "only on holidays".   Each boundary I set, was ultimately broken.   Each time it was broken, it became a failed attempt to manage it.  Each failed attempt to manage it came with a loss of belief in my ability to keep my word.  Each time I failed to keep my word, I lost confidence in myself and each time I lost confidence in myself, my ability to see a brighter future dissipated.
I don't like to think about the things I did or said when I drank and I am grateful for the forgiveness that I am provided by my Savior, Jesus.   I needed to learn how to forgive myself and how to forgive others to truly thrive in this process.

As with all bad habits, mine was not addressed until the habit was costing me something great enough to motivate me into action.  For me, it was the arrival of Covid 19 and the fear that if I didn't manage my drinking, I would surely be unable to survive Covid should I contract it.   I didn't relate to the AA model primarily because I didn't want to call myself an alcoholic.  I had enough of a self-confidence problem and labeling myself wasn't going to help with that.    I already was a staunch Christian who loved Jesus, so I didn't see that approach providing much value either.   Additionally, once you go that route, you are labeled for the rest of your life.

Low and behold, I paid for a coaching program to help me put alcohol to the side for 3 months.  I had no plan to quit forever.  I couldn't remember the last time I went even one month without alcohol, and I wanted to see how I would feel if I put it to the side.   I was so transformed at the end of that 3 months that I ended up working for the same company as a Client Journey Coach and an Enrollment Coach.   During that time, I started creating daily journal entries and prayers in order to match the teachings I had learned in the program.    I shared them with clients, and they encouraged me to continue this path of a daily devotional to go along with their alcohol-free walk.

This Plans He Has For Me Devotional solves for the problem of cognitive dissonance, which is defined as having two competing beliefs about the same thing.   To solve for that, much awareness is brought in as to the lies we tell ourselves about the benefits of alcohol.   It also engages the reader for 84 consecutive days with God's Word and the "truth" unto which He warned us of the consequences of engaging.

The daily devotional will help with re-creating new neural pathways by practicing new thought patterns each day.   Ultimately, it is no coincidence that God's Word also tells us that "practicing these things" will renew our mind.  (Romans 12:2).

Instead of living with a label forever, be empowered with the choice for something better in your life
