Time to Remember, Time to Forget: The story of the Dembinski family's deportation from Poland during the Second World War

Description:

This book tells the story of the Dembinski family's experiences during World War II between 1939, when the Germans invaded Poland from the West and the Russians from the East, and 1942 when the family arrived in England. The story brings to life the hardship endured by the family as they fled their home, leaving a privileged life in Warsaw, to find themselves being transported on a cattle truck to Siberia where life became merely a fight for survival. This book was written by Andrzej, the youngest and last surviving member of that family, during the final years of his life, using information recorded by his mother, his sister's diaries, his father's record of his experiences as a General in the Polish Army and his own memories. Written primarily as a record for descendants of the family, he hopes his family's wartime experiences will be of interest to others as a part of history and a story of human struggle and determination in the face of adversity. Includes photographs, family correspondence and documents relating to the period covered in the book.
